Kiteboarding Gear
The Kiteboarding gear needed vary depending on the level of skill and personal preference of the kiteboarder doing it.
Here are some of the basic kiteboarding gear that you may need:
1. KITE - This is the gear that plays the most important role as it provides the source of power. There are inflatable kites and foil kites.
2. KITEBOARD - A small composite, wooden or foam board. There several types of this but the easiest to learn on and most popular is the twin tip boards
3. HARNESS - The harness together with a spreader bar attaches the rider to the control bar. By hooking in, the harness takes most of the strain of the kite's pull off of the rider's arms, and spreads it across a portion of his body. This allows the rider to do jumps and other tricks while remaining attached to the kite via the control bar. Waist harness are by far the most popular among advanced kiteborders.
4. FOOT STRAPS/PADS OR BOOTS - This attaches the board to the kiteboarder's feet.
5. BAR/LINES - The control bar is a solid metal or composite bar which attaches to the kite via the lines. The rider holds on to this bar and controls the kite by pulling at its ends.
7. HELMET - worn by kiteboarders to protect the head from any kind of injury or physical trauma.
8. PERSONAL FLOATATION DEVICE (PFD) - This gear provides additional security to the kiteboarder so that he can concentrater on riding.
9. WETSUIT - worn by kiteboarders to reduce body heat loss when kiteboarding in strong winds. It is also a kiteboarder gear that protects them from abrasions, marine life like jellyfish. It can be a "shortie" which only covers the torso of a full suit.
These are just some of the kiteboarding gear that one needs to purchase and prepare in taking up kiteboarding as a sport or hobby.
