We're going camping and I'd like some dinner ideas, especially for chicken and/or a pizza.?
We have a Coleman camping stove (propane), a medium size frying pan, and a medium size pot (with lid) to cook with. I'd like to do as much prep as possible at home rather than bring a ton of ingredients with us. We have an excellent cooler (metal) that keeps things quite cold.
My son has asked for chicken kebabs for a meal, and pizza for another.....both of which I've never cooked on a BBQ/open grill before.
basically anything you can cook at home on the stove top or outside grill you can cook while camping.
Cut up your chicken and cook it with a chicken gravy and serve with mashed potatoes and heat up a can of veggies. an easy chicken gravy is using a can of cream of chicken soup and add to the cooked chicken and add just enough water or milk to make it nice and creamy.
You can cook pizza on the camp stove if you have a grill to lay it on just like at home on the bbq grill.
how about spaghetti, you can even pre-cook your noodles and toss with butter or olive oil so they don't clump up then heat them in some water at the camp site and cover with the hot sauce. the meat of choice can be cooked ahead of time as well and added to the sauce to heat up. fix some garlic bread and wrap it in 2 layers of foil and heat over the fire.
burgers are always great as are hot dogs, steaks or fish. serve with pan fried potatoes, either use frozen cubed potatoes(if they thaw it will not matter) or fresh cubed potatoes, add some onion and green pepper and salt and black pepper to taste and there's your side dish. corn on the cob is good cooked over the fire or how about Kraft mac n cheese. Think by now you are getting the picture....have a great trip.
