The art of creating hammocks have been passed down for centuries, from generation to generation. While hammock culture is still practiced in many countries of Central America and the Caribbean, the preferred hammock style of today is the Mayan hammock.
This well known hammock is still made in the Yucatan of Mexico, by Mayan women. Through fair trade cooperatives, the women are able to provide for their family and support community development.
Often enjoyed and remembered the most when on holidays and vacations, a hammock has a universal appeal. All round Mexico and around the world, hammocks are found in villages, villas, hostels and homes.
Synonymous with comfort and relaxation, hammocks have easily stayed with our modern day life. Hammocks have been a standard for backyards and beaches for decades. They are also taken along for days in the great outdoors or months travelling overseas with backpackers.
Camping hammocks are specifically designed for being used in the great outdoors. Like the sailors, camping hammocks keep sleepers from being rocked out at night. They also allow campers to set up camp anywhere without needing to search for the perfect tent spot. They are light weight making it easy for hikers to carry around and handily stow away goods and gear, anytime.
When lying in a hammock, there are two ways to lie in one. Many think of laying in it lengthwise, which is one way, and more popularized. The more traditional design of a hammock is for you to lay in it crosswise. In doing so, you get a lower center of gravity while receiving maximum comfort and support.
Because Mayan cotton hammocks have no spreader bar, they are very lightweight and compact so they are easy to transport, store, and carry. They are most popular among backpackers and travelers, as well as day trippers and campers. Mayan hammocks are especially convenient as an extra bed or great furniture inside or out. They can be easily attached and removed from hooks securely anchored in wall studs or ceiling beams when unexpected guests arrive.
For a day at the beach or for a couple wanting a romantic afternoon, a hammock makes for the moment. When choosing a hammock, it’s best to go with a larger size. Any extra fabric of the hammock will actually bundle around your body like a blanket.
The Single size is a good one for travel and supervised children. The Queen shares well for two or seats unexpected guests. For the outdoors, the King size hammock holds a picnic lunch and packs neatly for a weekend, for backpackers. If you want one to hold the family or a group of friends, the Super King makes the best friends and family hammock.
As a garden accessory for your place for you and friends, or to welcome visitors to your guest house, hammocks provide universal charm and appeal. Hammocks don’t have to be solely the domain of vacation rentals, you can compliment your backyard or garden venue with a hammock or two. Friends and guest will always fondly remember were hanging out in your hammock at the whim of the breeze as the day edged casually by.
